SunPort attended the Halden Project Expert Workshop on “International Assessment of Safety Assurance Approaches,” hosted by the Institute for Energy Technology in Rockville, Maryland on March 14-15, 2019. The workshop was conducted as part of the continuing research effort related to digital I&C safety demonstration.
Panel 1, Organization of “Safety Assurance” Information, discussed how the organization of “Safety Assurance” information can be improved, such that various parties can identify the residual uncertainties and reason about their effects on the safety conclusion efficiently?
Panel 2, The “Common Cause” Problem, discussed what evidence should be considered necessary and sufficient, such that different adequately-qualified evaluators can reach a reasoned safety conclusion.
Panel 3, The “Safety – Nonsafety Interaction” Problem, discussed what evidence would be considered necessary and sufficient, such that different adequately-qualified evaluators can reach a reasoned safety conclusion?
Panel 4, Road to Best Approaches, discussed what are the hurdles and what are the approaches to overcome these hurdles in pursuing the best approaches identified in the preceding panel sessions.
